Bill of Lading (BL/BoL):
Bill of Lading (BL/BoL) is a legal document issued by a carrier (transport company/shipping agency) to the shipper (consignor/exporter) of goods which acknowledge receipt of cargo for shipment that is the BL documents is the evidence and proved that the carrier received the goods for shipment; the goods have been loaded in/on the carrier. The Bill of Lading document serves as a document of title to the goods. Hence, to receive and release the goods from the carrier as mentioned in BL, the BL document must be presented at the place of destination. In documentary credit, as per UCP 600 Article 20, BoL mainly use for port to port shipment of goods.
Common Features of Bill of Lading (BL/BoL):
- Name and address of Shipper, Consignee and Notify Party
- Name and address of Consignee/Receiver of Goods
- Port-to-port Shipment that is name of the port of departure/loading and port of discharge/final destination
- Name of the carrier/vessel and voyage number
- Signature of the carrier/master/agent of the carrier/agent of the master
- Date of Shipped on Board/Loading On Board/date of issue of BL/date of departure
- Description of Goods
- Incoterms
- Transhipment/Partial Shipment Status
- Freight Status such as Freight Prepaid/Freight Collect/Freight Paid/Freight Unpaid
